A Passion for His House

Back again after time out at Whangapoua, another one of N.Z.’s great beaches!

A home of our own! After having lived in different places and rented many houses it was a great joy to move into a house we could call our own – even if it did come with a hefty mortgage. From the day the foundation was laid we watched with avid interest as ‘our home’ took shape. Moving in day was a day to remember!

All through scripture we get glimpses of God’s great desire for a place to dwell – a resting place – a home. At Moses tabernacle in the wilderness, at king David’s tabernacle on Mt. Zion, in the book of Haggai where God is saying don’t neglect My house, go and get timber, build Me a house/home and see what I will do!

This is so relevant for us today. Amazingly God has chosen to reside, make His home in us as temples of the Holy Spirit – but His greater desire is to live amongst us corporately in His temple. His great desire and plan is that we as living stones be built together and so become His house, a temple that He can dwell in powerfully.

1Peter 2:5 ‘…you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house’.

Ephesians 2:21,22 ‘In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too (the church in Ephesus) are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

1Corinthians 3:16 ‘Don’t you know that you yourselves (the church in Corinth) are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?’

What about God’s house in our locality? What does it look like to God? Is there a passion for it to be built?

Until next time. God bless. Colin

  1. Hi Colin & Grace, Great to get your news. Where is your new home? Christmas is just around he corner and you will have the joy of having your family with you in Sydney. Sally and I are making plans with Howie Edwards to spend 4 weeks up in his church to allow them to have a sabbatical. We plan to be up there from mid February to Late March. Blessings, Wayne & Sally
